Studio Jacobs is the Netherlands-based landscape and garden design firm of Jeroen Jacobs, a Dutch Garden Designer with over a decade of experience creating residential gardens in the Netherlands, the US, the UK, and across Europe.

Continuously inspired by nature, Jeroen’s approach to design is rooted in the reflection of the surrounding context while elevating the space through opportunities for exploration, discovery, and seasonal interest.

With a background in horticulture, construction, design, and architecture, Jeroen is driven by the belief that a strong space is the sum of its parts. Balancing thoughtful and organic planting with meticulous attention to detail, Jeroen strives to create timeless gardens and landscapes.

Bio

Originally from the Netherlands, Jeroen obtained his degree in Landscape Architecture at the Erasmus Hogeschool Brussels. While in Belgium, he was able to visit and study the great gardens of Europe, laying the foundation for his career.

After graduating, Jeroen founded his own Landscape Design firm, Pit!, through which he was able to make a name for himself in the Netherlands and Belgium, designing and building private residential gardens for large-scale countryside estates and more intimate city spaces. It was also during this time that Jeroen successfully entered various design festivals, including the Appeltern Tuinenfestival in the Netherlands, the international design contest in Chaumont-sur-Loire, France, and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London, England. While his Chelsea garden was welcomed by the jury with great enthusiasm, due to the financial crisis, the garden was unfortunately never realized.

After five years running his own firm, Jeroen felt it was time to expand his horizons. Intrigued and inspired by the beautiful gardens of the English Countryside, he decided to move to London, where he worked for the renowned Landscape Architect, Tom Stuart-Smith. Gaining further experience in the management of large, private residential projects in the UK and Europe, during the five years at Tom Stuart-Smith studio, Jeroen was able to develop his planting knowledge and expertise in historical estates. This focus on plants and heritage is something that Jeroen still holds close in his work today.

During a trip to Northern California in 2015, Jeroen fell in love with the natural beauty this corner of the world has to offer. Inspired by the Sierra, Redwood groves, and dynamic coastline, Jeroen moved to the US with his wife in early 2017.

Upon arriving in the US, Jeroen began working for Elizabeth Everdell Garden Design, a well-known landscape designer in the Bay Area. Working alongside Elizabeth Everdell for nearly three years, Jeroen managed a variety of projects in San Francisco, Atherton, Lake Tahoe, Seattle, and New York City. The first garden Jeroen designed in California won the CLCA 1st place award for Large Residential Estate.

After living and working in California for more than three years, Jeroen decided to return to the Netherlands. Almost immediately after arrival, Jeroen started working as an Associate and planting expert at a renowned Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture firm in Amsterdam.

The positive feedback and enthusiasm Jeroen received from clients and colleagues motivated him to start his own studio.

At Studio Jacobs, Jeroen hopes to create gardens that are a reflection of his European heritage, expertise, and, most of all, his passion for the natural world.
